    Early 72 Seatbelt Warning Light

Thanks to a another member I was able to purchase the correct timer last year to make the light function. However, the previous owner used some creative wiring to make the substitute timer he installed work. Can anyone steer me in the right direction to find a wiring diagram for an early 72 seatbelt timer? My AIM only shows the later version and all other searches have been fruitless. Thanks in advance for any help. .

Dan, I am looking at a 72 shop manual and there is a wiring dia. of the first style seat belt warning I believe. It shows the push button to shut off lamp. if you have a S/M look on page 12-92

I don't believe a GM diagram exists for that. I think that the Doc Rebuild diagrams may show it but I don't know that, I haven't seen one. My early '72 has the 3961500 timer you have. I traced it all out and took notes, it's pretty simple but I'd have to dig it up. And my '72 doesn't have the push button, I think that's for '71 cars. Have fun!!

Thanks for the replies. I actually figured it out a little while ago and it actually works with the NOS timer. Tom is right, it was pretty simple once I found the remains of the original wires.

Page 12-92 is the second design in my shop manual. It says "seat belt warning buzzer" which is the second style, effective late December 1971. The first style was a timer, not a buzzer. If yours is different, I'd love to see a copy of that page, because it would be extremely helpful. My October 71 LS5 has the timer, working. I believe that repro harnesses have provisions for either. Those manufacturers might be able to help.

Mike, our cars are cousins, mine is an early October LS5, w/ a/c (almost wish it wasn't). Yours wouldn't happen to be Perter Silver? Not too many of those. Have fun!!

Aside from the color and lack of T/T, leather and mine is an auto, we're close. I figure Mine is an October 7th build based on the vin. Got Rear defogger? HAve fun!!

Hi Dan. I hope all is well with you. I had been looking off and on for a photo that I was sure I had on file of the early system's thermal switch in place in my (early system) car, without the lower right hand dash pad in place, so that I could help you. Unfortunately, I have not found it on my current computer. It sounds as though the switch (GM 3961500) you got from that "ANOTHER MEMBER " is now installed and working as needed?
