1963 Trim Tag

This trim tag shows a code of 898E and the TIMJG indicates it is supposed to have A/C, but the vehicle does not have A/C. This vehicle was supposedly restored by an NCRS judge, but I cannot see a judge missing this. I am correct in reading the guide or is there a possibility that this car may not have had A/C? Confused. Thanks.

Sven, looking at the tag I would guess the VIN is somewhere around 19000. By that time the A/C indication on the trim tag was used as the letter X. Except of the interior color was specified as STD or BLK. I'll look up the E code.

After 2/22/63 a coupe with A/C should be 898S

898E = should be prior to 2/22/63.

The book says for 898E, coupe with A/C and excludes U69 (PB AM/FM radio).

My coupe is 898E and has U69 with NO A/C. It's a May 15th car #15,240.

Thanks Harry and Syd. Still seems strange to me unless I am missing something. Why would they still attach the tag with this trim code well after 2/22/63/?......this car is a late July 1963 car.

Interesting - 115192 also has 898E with U69 (AM/FM radio) and no A/C.

Joist out of curiosity, does yours have the round cross rod x-bracing in the core support in front of the radiator?

Time out. My last reported J4 is 18450, body 9346; my first reported K1 is 18585, CPE Body 9398; my Last reported K1 is 19010, CPE Body 9575 - is K2 just a bad guess or ???????? My earliest K2 CPE is 19051, body #9594. Houston, I think we have a problem.........

Hey Jon,

Living in the northeast takes it's toll and my 63's original core support was long gone when I found it. It had the service replacement support with the FI hole and appeared to have been there for a long time. I might be bothering you in the future for some shots so that I can get mine right.

Sven I don't think you have to worry about that int trim tag code.
