66 Convertible: How to remove the soft top attaching plate

Today I found out my 66 convertible soft top attaching plate (located behind the door jamb) had been drilled out so a bolt and nut are required instead of using the threaded hole in the plate. I assume at some point the threads were stripped in one of the holes. Question: How is the plate removed so it can be replaced?

Mark, I removed one of those to make a copy for a friend but I don't remember exactly how but it wasn't difficult. Isn't it captured somehow and you can just pull it up and out with a magnet? Wish I could remember. I'll take a look tonight.

      John,
After hearing that you were successful in removing the plate, I put on some stronger glasses and got a bigger hammer. It came out fine. There is a slot in the plate and a body tab fits in the slot. Once I bent the tab with some gentle persuasion, the plate came out easily.
      Thanks,
      Mark

Good news Mark. Tips from other members are a great resource. The been there, done that thing. Still looking for that part I put in a safe place a few years ago.
