Re: 1963 radiator core
Hmmmm.... this thread is becoming too settled.... Frank, are you aware that there are differences in the radiator shrouds depending on whether they are intended for use on core supports with/without the trans cooler hole?- Top

Re: 1963 radiator core
My original shroud SHOULD be OK though as the car's radiator core support had the transmission cooler hole.
At least I scored an original radiator core support today off a good friend from a convertible with a serial number below 700!
Took some "horse trading" though!! Stabilized the very mild surface rust after this pics and will paint it in the morning...- Top

Re: 1963 radiator core
Frank,
Look closely at Rich's picture in posting #12. In the vicinity of the now-famous hole, you can see the shroud has a slight notch to clear the punch-out area around the hole. On core supports without the hole, like on my '63 for example, there is no notch in the shroud.

I found some interesting parts in their inventory after they closed.

Re: 1963 radiator core
Yup.... I saw the title on the car and that's who sold it....VERY cool picture...
I'll share it with the new owner (whom you almost certainly know)...
That's the car providing the radiator support pictured above...a two owner car (transferred from the buyer to his brother, both now deceased) and has never been out of Winter Garden...
JIM: Confirmed I have the notched shroud -- thanks for that extra bit of knowledge...Last edited by Frank D.; November 3, 2016, 05:29 AM.- Top

Re: 1963 radiator core
Very interesting, Bob.
I can think of two possibilities to explain the configuration on your car:
1. The addition of the notch in the shroud did not happen concurrently with the addition of the hole in the core support. If true, there would/could be other '63s with "late" support and "early" shroud".
2. At some time before you owned the car, it sustained front end damage and needed a new shroud. Somehow, an early shroud was located and used as a repair part.
Do you know any history of your car prior to the time when you acquired it? And can you post a picture of the area around the hole? I'm curious to see how well the non-notched shroud fits and works.
