Ah, good to know. Thanks. I will make sure before I do anything. Mike

If you think you have a survivor car, I wouldn't consider removing anything for restoration of any kind.

I hear you, but as it is not drivable without brakes, I don't think I have much choice. I guess mechanical restoration only does make much more sense, however.

          Mike------

If the car has been stored since 1983 and still has its original brake calipers, I can't imagine that the brakes would be even minimally functional at this point. Dissimilar metal corrosion between the aluminum pistons and iron caliper bores stoked by the moisture that's undoubtedly worked its way into the brake fluid has probably rendered the pistons "stuck in their bores", to say the least.

Joe, The second owner explained that the brakes were "dangerous" when he drove it to storage 33 years ago. There is zero brake fluid left in the system now, and all paint on the brake shoe backings is fully bubbled. The calipers each have two seized pistons, and two with lots of clearance...

              Mike,

Don't forget about the master cylinder! Could be in similar condition.

Check with Corvette Stainlless Brakes in FL. They advertise in The Driveline.

Yes, most likely it will be. A master cylinder bore needs to be PERFECT and WITHOUT honing. The chances that this master cylinder is going to meet that standard are about as close to zero as one can get.
