Shiny Shows

We all have heard the saying "NCRS Corvettes do not do well at Shiny Shows".
The Central New Jersey Chapter recently participated in a local Shiny Show in Princeton, NJ as part of their requirements for a Top Flight Chapter Award. An information table was set up and various NCRS publications were available for review.
The CNJ chapter brought 14 Corvettes of various years for display purposes.

When the awards were announced at the end of the show, every member of the CNJ Chapter received a trophy from a third to first place finish. The Judges were highly impressed with the quality of the Corvettes brought out by the CNJ Chapter, Corvettes as far as Long Island were entered in the show.

Attached is a photo of the 14 members (We had someone sneak into the picture who did not bring his Corvette) displaying their trophies.

A good time was had by all and a lot of new friends were made.

Yep, lots of NCRS haters out there, especially on some of the popular Corvette sites. Don't listen to 'em - many of them aren't (and never were) NCRS members, and they haven't got a clue what the club is about. Some of them just have interests that lay in other areas - customs, resto-mods and hot rods (and those are all fine - I like and can appreciate them all for what they are). A few of them are (or were) NCRS members and had a bad experience somewhere along the way, so now they spend their time trashing the club instead of working for constructive change from within. No club is perfect, and where big-dollar, complicated toys like Corvettes are concerned sometimes no room is big enough for all the egos involved. You learn to take the sour with the sweet, and enjoy the huge depth of knowledge and wonderful fraternity of classic Corvette owners. I know I have learned a lot about my 1962, and yes, it typically does well even at local "Show 'n Shine" get-togethers full of Mustangs, GTOs and even highly-modded Subarus and Hondas. At the end of the day, car guys are car guys (and gals).

Glad to hear so many NCRS cars did well at the show. My experience has been that alot of it has to do with the level of restoration. It seems that most NCRS guys are just as worried about over restoration as the are about under restoration so sometimes the cars dont appeal to the masses like a over restored car does. Its kind of like unrestored cars, most agree that these are the most desirable but they tend to not do so well at local shows. For example, there is a original owner unrestored 1966 GT350 that frequents the local shows around here, rarely wins anything. There is also a over restored, real but NOM LS6 1970 Chevelle that always does really well. Id be willing to bet that if the roles were reversed, the Chevelle was unrestored and the Mustang was over restored the Mustang owner would have alot more trophies than he does now.

Johnny, no problem. The only reason I even mentioned that fact was that i knew that someone would count the number in the photo and say, hey there are 15 individuals and Pat said that there were 14 members who received trophies.

Thanks for being there and helping out with our Chapter display and information table.

Like I said before the Spirit of 53's Corvette Club of New Jersey went out of their way to include us in their show.

Haven't found that to be the case at shiny shows in my area. You have to have lots of "bling"- chrome everything, custom wheels, etc. to get attention. That's what these "judges" are looking for.

Can't say that I ever been treated unfairly at "shinny" shows. I think in those events, it's all about the details, details and details.

Just got back yesterday from a ultimate "Shiny" show, the Hilton Head Concours.

Happy to report Frank Tetro got BEST In Class in his 1967 L71.
