Steering Coupler / Rag Joint ID - C2 Corvette?

I've had this sitting around. Got in a box of C2 Corvette parts. I think I asked about this before bout can not find the thread, so....

Is this a steering coupler for a Corvette application?

    Tom,

That's not for a C-2 but I believe it's for a later Corvette like a C-3. That one could be adapted if someone had the lower half of an original. However there are repair parts for originals.

Tom I think JR nailed it not like the one on my 63.

This looks to be a 1967-E69 Corvette steering coupling including both the lower coupling and the upper flange.

It's also possible that it's the 1963-66 with telescoping column coupling. As I recall, it's also configured similar to the 1967-69 coupling and I think this coupling was supplied complete with the upper flange. This was GM #5692974. I have an NOS example of this coupling [not for sale] but I just don't feel like going out and digging it out right now for comparison.

In fact, as I look at the coupling a little more, I think it has to be this coupling. Note that the upper flange is riveted to the lower coupling. The 1967-E69 coupling was attached to the upper flange with bolts.

Note: I tried to edit my above post and add this. However, for some reason, I find that whenever I respond to a post that contains photos, I am not able to subsequently edit my response. I get a dialogue box that says my post is too short.

            Joe,

This coupling would not be for a 67 as the upper shaft is much larger on a 67. Might be for a tele but I can't verify that as I'm no tele expert.
Probably not an expert at all. And yes, I have the same problem with editing a post.

              Joe, JR....et al.

Some time ago the software in this present version was changed to upgrade other features. At that time I had the same problem you described when in EDIT mode. I created a HELP desk ticket and was told there is a bug in this new version regarding the "post too short" error message.

A workaround is this. When the dialog box comes up that the post is too short, click the "X" in the upper right corner of that dialog box. Don't click the CANCEL button or you will loose your edits. Then click the "GO ADVANCED" button. Note that your screen may have characters overwritten and look generally corrupted. Ignore that. Then click the SAVE CHANGES button. The post will then be submitted with the edits and photos.

I don't know if there are notes in the HELP pages regarding this workaround. We should probably have it in a STICKY thread in the interim until the bug gets fixed.

edit....I'm going to post the workaround in a new thread and ask someone to make it a sticky up top.

Look at page 188 of the 1965 6th Edition of the Judging Guide. This Telescopic Coupler is pictured.

Thank you all for the information.

I will put a tag on it being for a mid C2 with Telescopic column.

I don't own any C2's so it may be best to get it to some one that can use it.... OR.... I could use it as an excuse to get a C2! Look honey, this is for that 66 big block coupe I have dreamed about. All I need to do is find one that is missing this part...........

                    I'm sure that will fly.

                    Regards,

                    Tom

Yea I have tried that and it doesn't work. So just buy one and bring it home. It's easer to ask for forgiveness than permission.

That is for the 65-66 tele column. The 63 -66 std had the flange on both sides. the 67- e 69 were the same rag but didn't have the long flange on it. The L69-82 are different, they had the d flats in them, different spline count, and a bracket on the backside.
If it is a GM rag it's worth over $200 now.
