Before you spend any money find out what the casting date and casting number are. The CS suffix hay have been used on vehicles other than Corvette. Bill

Sounds like a real block. What is your opinion of the block stamping? Real, restamped? What is the physical condition of the block? Any cracks, has it been bored, how much? Do you have a Corvette that needs this engine? Bill

The condition looks excellent...I can post a pic....he says it's been checked by a machine shop and it's ok

im building a project motor.... a 290 FI.....I have a late 59....but I'm not really building it for that car....this a stand alone project
i wanted a 59 block to be period correct with my car just in case someday I ever changed my mind... but finding a CS is difficult so I'm not sure I should pass it up even though it's appears to b a 60
          hes asking $2500 obo

$2500 for a bare small block sounds like a record price.

Well he just upped it to $4500......so it's moot point now.

For what it's worth a block of that vintage, if it came in a car, would be VIN stamped.

Sold a 62 FI block similar to this for $500. Only the owner of car 6519 will pay more

Jim, I believe the 6519 is not the vin sequence, but is the last 4 digits of the 1960 block cast part#, 3756519.

                          Re: Fuelie Engine Block

Yes Rich, agree. 1960 was the first year of the vin code also on the engine. NOT ALL received it, but I have photo records back to vin 1617, so ''most'' motors were stamped.

A good friend owned 62 fuel injection engine number 62 original short block 2109630 F0222RF
B202 cast date. With crank, .30 over pistons and camshaft. After 18 months of no action in DRIVELINE and eBay adds, Ed bought it for a good customer car vin # in the vin 5000 range with a nice original FI and RPO# 687 brake suspension. Realized it was not original, but felt it better than a re-stamp. Paid $500. If we could have found owner of vin 9630, then the price would have been $2500 or more.

I wish Greg good luck here.

Rich, TEXAS was a good weekend and you and John added lots to our weekend of fun and reunions.

                            Re: Fuelie Engine Block

From the 1960 judging manual, the VIN derivative stamping started in 1960 with VIN 1800. Apparently the VIN derivative was applied WITHOUT a gang stamp from VIN 1800 thru 5394. Characters were 3/16th inch from 1800 thru 5394. 5395 and beyond were applied with a gang stamp and went to 5/32 characters.
My 60 falls in this “1800 to 5394” range, so I have been down this road. The block Greg talks about would have been stamped with the VIN derivative.
                            edit:
I believe that Rich is right in that the "6519" is the last 4 digits of the block casting number. If that were the last 4 of the VIN, the "birthday" would be 4/20/1960. A far cry from the assembly date of 2/24. With that assembly date, the last 4 of the VIN would have to be approx. 4170
                            .
