    Consideration in painting a c2

I am going to paint my 63 roadster in the correct color with a good 2 stage paint for a driver. To minimize the cost I will remove all trim, weather stripping, and any other items needed. Do I need to remove the headlight buckets to get a good job?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Hi Jeff - If the color your painting is a different color than what is currently on the car, I would say, yes.

I don't know if your painter would be able to adequately mask the sides of the buckets and/or the inside fender panel that the buckets attach to and give you the a paint job you would want. It may or may not be the place you want to save money?...But, that's just me.

    Good luck,
    Mike

      Jeff
It's my understanding that both light buckets and 2 grills in front of the front screen where the water nozzles fit were sprayed inside the car, as it went down the line, when people rip out there orginal old carpet you can see paint marks , small strips where the grills we're sprayed.
however you do it Key thing is just take your time - good luck Keith

I took off most everything when I sent my 63 out to be painted, bumpers, stainless, wiper grills, windows, vent windows, exhaust panel. I left the headlights in but when I went to check out the progress the shop removed the headlights and doors to paint the of the car.

The buckets were in the car when painted at the factory. But for the amount of time you will spend trying to keep the gap between the body and bucket neat and clean while stripping, priming and water sanding, you will be time ahead and have a cleaner job if you remove them for the prep process and reinstall them just before painting. If you have a solid color, you could paint them off the car and reinstall them later as an option. A metallic color it is best to install them first so you don't end up with a color mismatch.
