I found 2 boxes marked wheel cylinders repair kit #5455661. They are in a Delco Moraine string box un-opened with a blue label. The guy I bought these from had an open box and they appeared to fit the 649 rear cylinder. My parts book isn't that old, so I'm wondering what this was used for. Did pay much for them, it was a curiosity thing.

GM #5455661 had many applications. As far as Corvette goes, it's applicable to 1953-59 front brakes as well as fronts for 1960-62 with HD brakes. This is a 1-1/8" bore kit.

Ian, Why not call some of the people who sleeve these cylinders and see if they can sleeve a 1-1/8 to a 1-3/16 bore size without any problems.

I opted to pickup a nice pair of rebuilt 527/528 from one of our members. I'll report back on the outside diameter...

So I got my 527/528 cylinders. Joe, the cups, pistons and even the spring rims are bigger than ones for the 821/822 1 1/8" wheel cylinders. The outside diameter of the 527/528 is 1.62" while the 820/821 is 1.56" which is almost exactly a 1/16" difference (0.0625). I think it's probably not a good idea to overbore a standard 1 1/8" wheel cylinder to 1 3/16". I didn't measure the wall thickness since there's a lip, but 1 1/8" = 1.125" and 1 3/16" = 1.1875".

The kit I have for the 527/528 are from Car Quest , Made in Mexico, is # C-638. The box also has a bar code 7 47730 30218 8. The cylinders are not assembled yet but are supposed to fit. as for the pistons, they do fit into the bore, however I'm not sure if they weren't just honed or bored. The claim was when I bought them was they were cleaned up.
