    Z07 brakes

The 73-75 Z07 and maybe FE7option package , as I understand it, included both front and rear dual pin calipers. Can anyone tell me if the rear calipers had a stiffening bracket requirement included ?
I do not have an Assembly Manual for these years. Any pictures would be appreciated
    Thank You

No, the J-56 brakes used from 1966 to 1975, including those part of the Z-07 package never used reinforcing brackets for the rear calipers. The brackets were used only for the front calipers.

By the way, J-56 was not included as part of FE-7. FE-7, like F-40 and F-41, was only a HD suspension option.

Joe do you know if the front and rear dual pin calipers use the same brake pad? I know the rear caliper has smaller pistons.

AFAIK, the rear calipers on the heavy duty brake & suspension packages never used dual pins to hold the pad in place. Only the pad material, and (probably) the backing plate and attaching method (material-to-plate) was different on the rears.

Notice on the attached pics that the pad material is the same (orange ink stamp "903 FF") and they are bonded, not riveted to the backing plate. I would expect that the plate on the rears is also of that heat-resistant material (Inconel ?)

As Wayne mentions, the rear J-56 did not use dual pin calipers. However, you will sometimes see dual pin pads on the rear. These are either single pin calipers that have been converted (easy to do) OR I think dual pin calipers MIGHT have been used on some 1969 Camaros with 4 wheel disc brake option.

              Wayne & Joe

I will try to post a picture of the rear dual pin calipers this PM.
