69 side pipe installation and lower fender cuts, per AIM, pictures needed.

I am in the process of installing reproduction side pipe mufflers and covers on my non-side pipe car. I have all the parts, instructions etc. I am wondering about cutting of the lower front fender fiberglass. I have the mufflers hung and have been reading the archive here, but have not found out anything regarding cutting the fender. The pipes seem to exit ok from under the fender without any cuts, just barely not touching the lower fender. I do not want to trim too much or any of the fender if I do not really have to. I have not attempted to install the covers yet and will not be doing so for some time, but wanted to understand the reasoning for the cutting.
What I would really like to see is pictures of this area trimmed from the factory or on another car without the cover installed.
Can anyone post some pics?

Not sure what happened to my port, it was edited I guess. I am looking for info on how to trim the lower fender, if required.

Joseph what type and diameter of exhaust pipe are you using? Heat would be your only problem. If your using the same TINY pipes the factory installed your ok. If you use the Super Competition Hooker Header Side pipes you will have more heat. I Thought the AIM shows the required cut outs for using sidepipes. Change the rear valance pan to without exhaust tail pipe cut-outs.
