I recently was able to purchase a set of original covers for my car. The covers that are on the car are not original, they have no drippers and a couple of other minor differences, but overall they are the same configuration. Specifically the arrangement of the individual spark plug wire holders on the lower edge. The non-original holders have what appears to be a "dipped' plastic/rubber coating of some sort but the originals do not. Should any coating be present on the originals or just painted steel? I did look at the repro's that Cranes sells and theirs are bare steel. Thanks!

Yes, they can be coated as you describe. However, these were NOT originally coated on original valve covers. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
