How much grease should be packed into the rear spindle support that houses the wheel bearings. I've packed grease into and around the bearings and around the spindle. I think this is good, don't want to put in too much, but can't really find a clear reference anywhere.

Re: c3 rear wheel bearings
The best way to grease the wheel bearings (front or rear) is to watch an old mechanic grease some bearings and learn! Greasing the spindle is a waste of time as there is no bearing there. BUT after installation IF you have installed a grease fitting the cavity will have to be filled to get grease to the bearings. BUT that is not a reality since the modern grease available will last your lifetime.

Re: c3 rear wheel bearings
Thoroughly pack the bearing and smear grease on the outside of the rollers and on the races. There is no need to pack the cavity between the bearings. If you use a full synthetic grease like Mobil 1 the job should be good for at least a couple of decades, assuming typical collector car annual mileage accumulation.

Re: c3 rear wheel bearings
That's what I thought. I did this a few years ago but the front trailing arm bushings failed so I decided to repack the bearings at the same time. I remember wondering the same thing about the cavity last time I did it and pretty much did what you described, but figured I'd ask the question this time while I had it apart. Thanks.- Top

Re: c3 rear wheel bearings
Pretty much what I do as well. I use a bearing packer and then follow up packing them by hand because I'm anal about this. I do put some grease in the supports and admit that it might not do anything but a little won't be too much and expand past the seals.- Top
