    Junk Reproduction Parts!

I know I'm gripping, but my god, as the mattress guys says, "it's a race to the bottom". I just received 2 '69 repro parts and they both are essentially junk.

One is a "correct" PB vacuum hose and it's entirely too short no matter how I try to route it.

The other are the tri-power vacuum lines with the white stripe. I tried two different vendors and in both cases the white is coming off in the package and as soon as I handle it, or worse yet, try to install it, it starts flaking off. Junk!

I'd much rather pay a bit more and get quality but in most cases we don't even have the option.

    Hi Jack,
Yes, lots of pretty poor parts out there.
Was either of the vendors you tried Dr.R ? While people find him pretty difficult to deal with (hope his wife answers the phone) he's generally a good source for 'soft parts' like hoses.
    Regards,

Jack, Doc Rebuild sells some pretty good repro hoses.

Sadly, yes, my first choice was Dr. Rebuild. I only tried CC afterwards because I was getting some other things from them anyway and their hoses were even worse. These hoses must of changed in the not too long ago past because I have an old hose from Paragon and my AIR system has a white stripe hose neither of which exhibit the same flaws or bad behaviour when handled. Perhaps Paragon's are better? Anyone purchsased from them recently?

I have yards of original white stripe hoses. Actually I have all colors. Originals are different from repros

I have been saving original hoses for 30 years, the repros have a different wall thickness and inked stripe differences.

October 11th I examined the bulk coils of 5/32, 7/32, 9/32 ID striped vacuum hose currently in stock. And produced a video of that examination.

I did not expect, nor did I locate any problem with any ink flaking off any of these hoses; I am not stating it cannot occur - however it is not in my inventory.

I bought C2 and C3 vacuum hose kits from Doc Rebuild a few months ago and they were perfect.

Doc has some really nice parts.

I pretty much buy from LICS, Doc Rebuild and Corvette Rubber directly anymore.
A few bucks more is worth it if I don't have to deal with crappy repros...
