Not completely sure that this is the same tool, but I believe this is it and the procedure that they used.

I always thought the rivets were put in from the other side and peened on the outside.

They are. The lower ball joints have the rivet head on the inside and the peened end on the outside. The upper ball joints have the rivet head on the outside and the peened end on the inside.

So in essence, the rivets go in from the top of the upper and lower control arms?

          Steven------

The lower ball joints are not riveted from what I would describe as either the top or the bottom. The rivets install from what I would describe as the side (i.e. parallel to the ground as installed on the car). The rivet head is located on what I would describe as the inside of the control arm (i.e. the rivet head contacts the ball joint) and the peened end is on the outside of the control arm.

Irby, I have that lower fixture tool if you want to borrow. USPS Priority mail small flat rate both ways would be about $13 to the island. I have the upper tool if needed too but bigger box for both. I won't be needing them for a long time. Drop me a PM if so. You can make your own air hammer peening tool from a old air chisel or a cheapie from your local stores if available there. Cut the end off and use a dremel with small rounded grinder bit to shape the end depression.

lower - that screw is made to hold it in place using the rubber bumper hole in the ctl arm
