Correct Oil Pan for a mid 1959.

    Morning All,

I'm suffering from severe "Wrong Part Paranoia"....after making some wrong purchases.

So I'm asking in advance. I'm considering purchasing this oil pan and want to know if it looks correct for my 59 290 FI build.
Owner says its off a 1957 or 58 vette. Looks right....but I've learned that doesn't mean squat.

    Thanks to all of you!
    Greg

No. Should be a "trap-door" with additional anti-splash "shelves" spot welded on the sides.

That appears to be a '57 passenger car oil pan.

A few years ago I found the link below about 53-62 oil pans. It might be helpful but the printing of the drawings in on the light side.

Greg In volume 42 summer2015 Restorer page 38-39 Ed Lepelis wrote an article about 56-62 pans. I know he has pans for sale I spoke with at Corvette Carlisle.

I was looking at that article...on oil pans and I notice it mentions the base 59....and the 60 with hi lift cam. But oddly nowhere does it mention the 1959 with hi lift cam? Which pan would I use....the 60?

No. The '59 290 used the same pan as all the other '59s. The trap door was introduced in 1960.

So the 59 290 has no trap door...got it.

                            thanks Bill

I found these 3 photos (in my file of oil pan photos) of a NOS 3735640 oil pan (57 Pass.) that came in a very old GM box. I would say that this confirms Jim's comment.
