1967 Corvette Starter field coil screws

On a 1967 BB starter, A cast date on the starter, should the starter have slotted OR phillip head screws to hold the field coils in place.
The 5th edition Juding guide say this: "On early production starters these screws were generally slotted while later cars frequently have Phillips screws. The exact changeover is uncertain and either style may be seen."

That statement "On early production starters these screws were generally slotted while later cars frequently have Phillips screws. The exact changeover is uncertain and either style may be seen." reminds me of "who's on first, what's on second".

My original starter has coutersunk Philips head screws and the original solenoid was painted black. When I took the phenolic cover off the end of the solenoid it was painted black under the cover as shown, indicating, in my instance, that the solenoid was black from the factory. I had wire brushed the solenoid body prior to the photo.

I'm not a 67 expert, but I thought an original 67 solenoid cover had DELCO in the center.....not Made IN USA.

Generally speaking, starters with 1107xxx part numbers have the slotted screws while those with 1108xxx part numbers have the phillips head screws. However, I HIGHLY doubt that there was any sort of Delco-Remy "rule" that prescribed that. Inasmuch as 1967 was the "changeover" year from 1107 to 1108, I expect that either style could have been used on either series starter.
