Recommendation on filler for oil pan dents/pits

    Guys,

I'm looking for a rec on the best filler to withstand the heat/soil of filling the pits and a couple of small dents on my oil pan. I have used metal 2 metal for dents and a standard filler (can't remember what) for small pits on another pan I did a few months back but I haven't installed or run that engine yet so wanted to see if there were any suggestions out there. My body supply guy said he thought metal 2 metal would be the best bet to withstand the heat but I've found that tough to work with for the small pits. It doesn't spread/float that easily. That's why I used the metal 2 metal for the bigger dings but a smoother filler for the pits. Appreciate your input. Thanks.

How about body solder. A bit of work and technique required.
    Hammer and dolly dents.
I would not suggest filler on mechanical parts seeing heat, vibration, and oil.

You should be able to find near perfect surface pan and can at swap meets, I did. Repop pans and canisters available too.

Never really wanted to repair an old junky dented pan as good ones are available as Gene says. Butttt, I would use JB
weld if the dent was small. It will take the heat and oil with no problem.

I have had good results using Evercoat "Vette Panel Adhesive/Filler" on 2 steel valve covers and a voltage regulator cover. Pounded out dents as much as possible and finished up with filler in very thin quantities (almost transparent when done). No indication of repair after 8 years of use.

Joe is correct, the JB weld holds up. I used it inside a Magnesium oil pan to seal a rivet. The pan had corrosion and I had to drill it out and put a soft aluminum rivet in to seal the drilled hole, I coated the rivet with JB just to make sure. Years later when I removed the pan the JB was still over the rivet and didn't even change color. You can keep it in place with tape to stop it from sagging, then after it's cured the tape will pull off so you can sand it. I prefer the slow cure.
