1966 Fresh Air Vent cable mounting under dash

Could a 65 or 66 owner please take a look at your fresh air knobs mounted under the dash and see if the left one point out quite a bit more than the right one?

I can't remember when I took them apart and don't have a good picture. I believe I have them mounted in the correct holes which would be next to the steering column. If you look in the attached picture neither of the knobs point straight out from the dash. The Right one is slanted a little, but the Left one is slanted quite a bit.

If I have them screwed into the correct holes, them they are what they are. Also, the outer plastic sheath of Bowden cable is so stiff I'm afraid if the knob did point straight out there would be so much more bend, and thus stress, in the cable that it would snap the end of the cable mount off the vent grill.

    Thanks,

Donald, Your picture appears correct to me even tho it works terrible. My LH vent cable is extremely hard to push in and out even tho I have lubed it well. If I take the screws out holding it to the bottom of the dash it then works very freely.

Thanks Russ, I also lubed mine good and they are both pretty hard to operate.

My 63 car was also hard to operate so I removed the doors and installed new gaskets so they move freely. The doors are much better so if you have not done that this will help.

Donald, the cables on my 63 orient the same way as your picture shows with the left side wanting to sit at a angle and not straight out.

I had mine all apart and replaced the flapper seals/gaskets. They work much better now. The tabs on the grilles that the cable housing retainer screws to were both broken so I had to replace both grilles. I'm the trying to make sure the cable routing is such that this doesn't happen again.

          Thanks
