Does anyone know what OEM materials were used in the headliner. I took my down to repair or replace. The headliner is vinyl with a foam backing that was mounted to what appears to a rubber/plastic semi-rigid type molded base, meaning it does flex to some degree. The base is color is black. If it is original I would like to try to have it repaired rather than replace it.

Re: 67 Headliner OEM
My original 67 coupe headliner was made using a press molded "cardboard" material with the black vinyl/foam glued to it. I repaired mine in 1982 using some thin foam and a spray adhesive. Later I purchased a replacement molded aftermarket one. This is probably what you have.
I've kept the original. Its been a while since I've had the aftermarket one out, but I vaguely recall it to be a "flexible" plastic molded material with the black vinyl/foam overlay. IMHO you'll be ahead purchasing a new one.....- Top

Re: 67 Headliner OEM
Stephen - I very much appreciate your reply. I was starting to get a headache trying to find out what original ones consisted of, books, online, etc. I was tending to repair if original, but, sounds like mine is aftermarket also. Any suggestion where to purchase aftermarket ones, i.e. - do you know if there are better than others out there, or, do most retailers sell the same thing? Thanks again.- Top

Re: 67 Headliner OEM
I would think there are few manufacturers of the headliner, rather all the vendors buy from the same manufacturer. I purchased mine from CORVETTE AMERICA years ago. Long Island might be a good source also.- Top

Re: 67 Headliner OEM
I installed a new headliner in my hardtop that I bought from Corvette America, it fit perfectly and looks really good.

Headliners are also available from Glassworks, the Hardtop Shop, in Pennsylvania. They make all their headliners in house. Their restored hardtops are a work of art.- Top

Re: 67 Headliner OEM
Received a replacement headliner for my 67 coupe. The foam and vinyl overlap the backing by about 1/2" all around making it too big and it does not fit. I realize the car could be off to some degree, but, I doubt that much. Do I need to trim the headliner myself? Do they all come this way? I thought the headliner would come "fitted" so to speak. The stiff backing or mold that the foam and vinyl are mounted on appears to be the same size as my old one. But, there is no way this is fitting in without cutting down the foam and vinyl to at least being even with the backing. I did not expect it to come this way, and, to have to be trying to cut it. I am afraid I'll muck it up. Anyone share this experience? Any other suggestions/input appreciated.- Top

I wouldn't get involved in "making it fit". If it does not fit right out-of-the-box, I'd return it. If you "adjust" it to make it fit and are still unsatisfied with the final installation, you're not going to be able to return it.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 67 Headliner OEM
Here are some photos of an original headliner backing.
One of the first things I did after I acquired the car was to replace the sagging headliner. As happens with almost 50 year old headliners with a vinyl and foam, the foam deteriorates letting the vinyl droop. My headliner was sagging rather significantly. I was new to purchasing Corvette replacement items, and after very little research I went with an Al Knoch headliner. I had absolutely no difficulty installing it. I have since found that some have purchased headliners that are a bit wider and have found it necessary to make some small cuts to allow it to fit. With all of the interior trim down, the only thing that holds the headliner up is four flat steel tabs (in the neighborhood of 16 gauge) welded to the cage. They hold the headliner up temporarily until the trim which actually holds the headliner up can be installed. Past threads on this indicate that some have cut small reliefs in the wider headliner to get it up and over those tabs. I don't know if this is a problem with the '66' headliner.
