    1963 Windshield Stainless Trim Polishing

I have a few NOS pieces of windshield trim for my 63 but there are a few light scratches and they don't show like some of the over restored pieces I have seen. How is this trim judged, I am not wanting to get carried away with it but it's not easy to take off and do over.

I am curious who does this type of polishing, I live in Md. and is it possible to remove scratches without removing the smack chrome.

TIA for any information and recommendations.

    Tim

You could try to buff them out in place it should remove minor scratches. The deduct should be pretty minor windshield trim and gasket is worth 10 condition points. The deduct for minor imperfections should be no more the 20% so that's 2 points but if they are really minor imperfections I would think no deduct at all. I lost 1 point on originality because the lower windshield trim didn't fit as close to body of the car as the judge thought it should. But I didn't lose any condition points and my trim had a few minor scratches. This was at the recent nation in Rhode Island.

Tim, My vendor trailer has aluminum fenders. The fender on the show side was totally trashed. All kinds of scratches and slight gouges from hitting highway cones a few times.
I used 000 steel wool. Then 0000 steel wool with water. Also fine sandpaper. Then I used Mothers Aluminum, etc polish with very little effort
Talk about a show shine. Was perfect and it's only a trailer fender.
I would be afraid to send out NOS windshield trim and have it buffed on high speed buffing wheels. Doesn't take much to have an accident buffing no matter how good we are. JD

Thanks everyone for the input, I have buffed stainless trim before and know how careful you need to be. I have decided to lightly buff/clean the trim and install. I will post a picture when the windshield job is finished as I have been away from it for two weeks. As we speak, the glass is installed and the gasket to glass has been sealed and lays nice and flat against the glass. Trim is next..
