    '69 Wiper Canister - Identifying a Repro

    Hi everyone,

Can someone tell me how to differentiate an reproduction wiper canister from an original (early '69)? I have two '69's and an extra canister and one has slight differences.

    Thanks,

    Jack

I assume you're talking about the "coffee can" canister. I'm not absolutely sure but I seem to remember that where the two sections are rolled together, on the repros that roll is round where the originals underwent a second rolling operation and thus were somewhat flattened. I'm sure others will give more info.

You are correct there Doug as the one I have not on a car is indeed rounded on the edge where as the other two are flat. Thanks.

        Jack,
Also, on very early '69 cars, there was a threaded hole on the top of the flange that holds the black accordion dust boot which was shorter than later boots and held by a small screw. A corresponding threaded hole was on the flange on the firewall to hold the other end. My Oct '68 car has this but I don't have any idea when the change occurred. My AIM does not show this but it does show a change to the actuator later in the year.

          Hi Jeff,
Hope things are good with you!
I happen to have a photo from a 69 Bowtie car that I think illustrates what you describe.
          It's a nice 300hp convertible with side exhaust! It's a C11 build.
          Regards,
          Alan

Yes, my Jan '69 car does have that on the canister. I can't be sure it has the original canister though. Thank for the help.

              Hi Alan,
Sorry I missed you at Carlisle! That is how my C22 car is. It would be interesting to see when the configuration changed to the n=more common one.
