Clutch and pressure plate recs for 69 SB

    Guys,

Anyone have a rec on a clutch/pressure plate for a 69 SB? Three finger vs. diaphragm? Brand? Need to order it to complete balance and assy of my short block. Thanks.

All 1963+ Corvette clutches were diaphragm type. ALL. That's the ONLY type I recommend and would ever use myself.

Use a LUK or Sachs clutch. 11", 10 spline disc.

      Joe-

I tried ordering the LUK clutch and the guy at my local speed shop had never heard of them. After some checking he found where he could get it from and commented that it was really inexpensive, only $110 for the clutch disc, the pressure plate, the throwout bearing and the pilot bearing. Is there a reason why you recommend them? I've used Centerforce or McLeod in the past without issues but I've never put one in a vette before. Just curious.

The LUK or Sachs clutches are the closest thing to original GM that's currently available. They are stock-type clutches, not "trick" aftermarket speed parts. Also, LUK and Sachs are OEM suppliers and provide clutches to current PRODUCTION for many cars and trucks.

I'm surprised your parts counterman was unfamiliar with LUK. They're one of the major suppliers of clutches.

Thanks Joe. Again it was a speed shop so guessing most guys go in there to get the trick aftermarket speed parts. I definitely love the price though!

I believe you want the LUK Rep Set.........not sure of exact part number for you without searching....but it should not be to hard to find. I would then get a new, all metal TO bearing and a new GM or Autogear oillite pilot bushing.

A good TO Bearing is Federal-Mogul (BCA) # 614018 self aligning. GM pilot is #10125896. Go to the Autogear site for their version of pilot bushing........which is very nice. I believe the part number is #0-127-006.

McLeod is also a good brand clutch with very little issues if you want to spend more $$$$$$$.

Clutch should be checked for balance. Make certain to use a pilot bushing installer or old/cutdown trans input shaft to get the new one in without damage and to make sure it fits the input shaft correctly.

If any doubt, do bell housing alignment checks to get everything centered.

              Larry,

I Looked into the FM TO bearing you mentioned but my local parts counter has the National brand of all metal TO bearing instead. Is that a decent part or should I order online?

                Michael------

National is a Federal-Mogul brand. Lately, I've noticed that Federal-Mogul has been "re-assigning" certain parts to different brands under their ownership. National used to be a brand only for seals; now it's more inclusive.
