Fan Clutch Rebuild & Repro Battery Recommendations

I am nearing completion on 3 1/2 year restoration of my '67 L79 Coupe. I need recommendations on two items:

Fan Clutch- Three years ago I bought a "rebuilt" correct fan clutch. I stored it w/ bimetal strip upright. Put it on the car and within a couple of days it started leaking. Of course, I can't find the receipt or remember who did it (only would like to remember to insure I don't send it to him again!!). Can anyone recommend a reputable source for another rebuild? There was a guy at B Gold this summer who looked good but I didn't get his name, thought I was all set!

Repro Battery- While I would like to use a repro battery to minimize point loss on judging I have had terrible luck with those batteries over the years (despite trickle charger & maintenance). Is there any brand/supplier who offers one close to original for the '67 that will last longer than a year?

Will appreciate help and advice, Jim B

I thought the correct way to store clutches was bimetal down so oil don't leak out of the seal. ??

The metal strip on the Schwitzer fan clutches is stamped "THIS SIDE UP".

That has nothing to do with storage of the clutch

Isn't that the direction as to which side is installed up?

Yes, it only refers to the installation of the metal strip.

Fan clutch should be kept in same position as if it were installed in the car.

I agree. And Restoration Battery for your battery. Antique Auto Battery is the manufacturer of the batteries, and a supplier to Restoration Battery. Either one will get you a nice battery..............although I have been using Tom at Restoration Battery for over 20 years.

The current gel, reproduction batteries do not leak acid and should typically last you 5-8 years. My last one actually went 10 years.

Makes no difference how you store it. GM parts were not designed for any "special" storage.

Joe, nobody at the dealer parts department paid any attention to those stickers. Ken

                            Larry,
Okay, I see Restoration Battery in the Driveline. Didn't know they were gel now. I will try it.

                            Thanks, Jim
