I am trying to replace the ignition switch and having problems fitting the lock cylinder into the switch. Current switch is working fine but I had one switch fail and want to replace again before failure. Until I sort out how to install the cylinder, is there a way I can rig an emergency wire set up in case of switch problems. In other words, how can I "Hot Wire" my '61? Maybe somebody knows somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody who has some car thievery experience! (Just Kidding)

Re: 1961 Ignition Switch
It would be easier just to get the cylinder in the new switch. It should just be a matter of inserting the key into the cylinder, inserting a paper clip into the switch body in the small hole and depressing the pin hidden inside while inserting the cylinder (with key installed) and turning to the left while removing the paper clip. IIRC this is all that is required.
If you just want to move the car without the key (also IIRC) you can run a jumper wire from the positive battery cable to the "+" terminal of the coil and use a remote starter switch (NAPA has them) to start the car (or jumper across the solenoid contacts). This bypasses the ballast resistor so don't run the car long in this manner.

Re: 1961 Ignition Switch
Over-tinkering screws them up as much as anything else (* GRIN *)...
Just snug down the 18 air horn screws a bit once in a great while and that's all!- Top
