Question for Joe L or other on A6 pulley size for the A/C C2's and C3's.

I was under the impression that the pulley size on all C2 & C3 cars with the A6 compressor was 5 3/4" with exception of the 6 3/8 on the 365 HP.
Have some reports of the 5" diameter pulley on some C3's. Could that be from getting a exchange compressor in it's life? I was sent a foil date code # which would seem to work for it being the original compressor. The back plate date code he gave me was R 1 0. That would not fit the completion date code even if the R was a B. B 1 0. Foil code read 08 05 9 1 which would Aug 05 1969 shift 1. Trying to help them out with their 1970 BB vette.

There were several different A/C compressor pulleys used over the C2 period. The one used for most C2 and some C3, GM #5914745, was officially 5.58" OD (but might actually measure out a little different since GM's measuring conventions sometimes are hard to rationalize). Some later C3 actually used a pulley that was 5.0" OD. As far as I can tell, if any 6-3/8" pulley was ever used for 1965 L-76, that pulley was never available in SERVICE.

        Russ & Joe,
Thanks for the info. All that I have seen on C2s was the pulley slightly under 5 3/4 " with exception of the 6 3/8 on the HP 327. I have seen C3s with the slightly under 5 3/4 " pulleys. The 5" pulley seemed to be on passenger cars and as I see it because of the high RPMs the vette had, they used the pulley larger than 5". But then when the C3 vette lost their compression, HP, and RPMs after 1971, did they go to the passenger car 5" pulley at some date?

I believe a 5" A/C pulley was used as early as 1969 for some Corvettes. This pulley was GM #6550750. A 4.6" pulley may have been used from 1976+ on Corvettes with radial compressor.

            Thanks,
Guess the only way to know is to see if the car uses the correct belt.
