    Non original tire identification

    Hi all,

In the short time since I got my car, I've tracked down 3 of the 5 previous owners relatively easily. Unfortunately one of them is no longer with us, but the other 4 are cool car guys and shared some details they remembered about the car.

One of the gentlemen, owner #4, had the car from 1991 until 2001. He was kind enough to send me a few pics of the car as it was when he had it. I really like the tires he had, a thin white wall and raised white letters together. The pics are scans of prints and too grainy to zoom in and read the letters. Do any of you recognize these tires and the brand?

I realize they aren't original, but I really like the style.

    Thanks!

Hi Michael. The tires in your pic look to be goodyear wingfoot radials. To my knowledge, they we a replacement performance tire sold in the 1970's and 80's. I had two sets of them and I liked the look, wearability, grip in wet,and quiet running aspects of the tire. Hope this helps. Curt

My brother was a Goodyear dealer in the day, and I had a set of those tires on my '70 LT1. IIRC, they came out in 1979, as an aftermarket performance tire, they never were on cars from the factory, as far as I know. Here is an ad for them:

Thank you Kurt and Michael. You guys nailed it. With that info I was able to find a clear picture of a Goodyear Wingfoot Radial and yep, that's definitely it! Unfortunately, I'm not having much luck finding reproductions. I'll keep looking later tonight.

        Thanks for your help!
