C2 Jack Storage - Precise Package

Gents: For successful NCRS Top Flight Judging, what should a correct 1966 C2 Jack; Handle; and KO Hammer package look like? I have the goods assembled, I just need to know the correct presentation. Any photographs will earn you a steak in Frisco in mid-October. Also, for the accompanying baked potato, what exactly should the wire retractor holding the package look like and how does it hold the three (3) items securely to the front of the storage well? Any guidance from the Brotherhood would be most appreciated. Best, Ned

It doesn't really matter how they are stowed as you remove them before judging.

      Ed,

Russ 100% correct. When you have your car moved into the hall for flight judging, take the jack and jack handle out of the car and place it on a towel or a fender cover for the judges to look at. I usually put them on the towel which I place at the back of the car near the spare tire. Just be sure it is out of the way so the judges can walk around the car, you don't want them to trip over it. You will also have to remove the spare tire from the tire carrier for the judges to look at also. You may also want to put you top ignition shielding, shielding fastener nut, air cleaner base, air filter, air cleaner top, and wing nut on the same towel also. All these items will all need to be removed for judging. I've included pictures of a '65 Duntov car that has the jack and handle secured in the storage well. The hammer can either be tucked between the jack and hold down spring. I wrap the jack in a small shop rag to keep it from rattling when I drive the car. Yes the carpet on the back side of the luggage stop was not glued down, never mind the socket and extension.

I like my beefsteak medium rare. Butter on the potato.
        Thank you

I usually just carry my stuff in a duffle bag and leave it there until I take it out to display for judging as Russ and James mention, then put it back in the duffle bag, no reason to store it in the car. It is useless for changing a tire anyway, a much better jack and hammer should be used which I leave in my garage or tow truck when traveling.

Minor point, believe the hook on the hold down spring should have the double hooks. Verify in your AIM - it should be 3785772

Probably so, Don's (and mine) are '64s and '65s, and they are a single loop cadmium or zinc finished handle. I seem to recall my '66 and '67 had the double hook.

                    James, Don and Michael:

Thanks fellows. These were perfect and very helpful posts. Are any of you going to be at Frisco (October 20-21)? James, I belive that you came up with the photograph first. I'll honor that offer of a good Texas USDA steak. Let me know. Best, Ned

I put a piece of wax paper on the jack where the spring contacts the jack along with a small face towel. The wax paper prevents the spring and/or the towel from making impressions in the paint on the jack irrespective of how fresh or not the paint it. Just my two cents. ARA

You mean you actually store the jack, handle, and hammer in the compartment? You are a purist, but of course that wax paper or towel is still NTFP.
