    dated glass windshield replacement

    Hi,
I'm looking for some ideas on replacing my scratched up 69 coupe windshield and any help with the following questions is appreciated:
    - dated glass windshield source, are there any suppliers available for dated glass?
    - other parts needed to support windshield replacement?
    - installer based in Southern California/Orange County area to perform replacement activities?
    - ballpark total cost for this replacement activity
    Thank you,

    Don

    Re: dated glass windshield replacement

There is only one manufacturer that I am aware of for LOF glass and that is Pilkington, there may be other vendors that sell the glass but I think it all comes from Pilkington. I believe they own the rights to the LOF logo. If you google their name you can find the contact information. The windshield cost is about $280 plus shipping for a dated replacement. You would have to locate a local glass installation company to install.

      Rob,

You may have already done your homework on this issue (windshield replacement) but just to be safe, if you have not searched the forum for threads on this subject you may want to read all the postings, at least for this one thread titled "Tinted windshield judging"

The thread is not all that old and there is a lot of valuable info on DOT regulations for window glass - members address much more than just judging issues - you may find it useful as you search for a manufacturer. There is some discussion on manufacturers as well.

I ordered my replacement windshield from Pilkington today. They have plenty in-stock even though their website order system shows none in stock. Contact Richard below if anyone is shopping for a dated replacement windshield. Don

Is the windshield that they have plenty of a clear or a tinted? Also is it dated?

Reviving this as it's not that old. I contacted the company listed above today and they tell me they don't have or offer the windshield in a clear for 69.

                Russ------

Actually, what surprised me is when Don stated that the windshields were available in clear. There were so few of the 1968-72 windshields that were clear that it surprised me that any manufacturer would offer them now. Plus, tinted became standard in 1970 so there are no 1970-72 models that ever originally had clear.

My original window was tinted and my documentation from the export Chevy file to Canada shows that it was tinted. The 1st windshield I received was scratched and buffed out deeply at the factory and rejected after the installer noticed that. The 2nd windshield was broken in transit. The 3rd windshield I received is now in and looks great. The installer and the owner at Automotive Expertise coordinating the install both stated that the windshield is a beautiful piece of glass and the manufacturer did an awesome job.

Nope, it was scratched up by the wiper blades and chipped from the prior owner and was disposed of during install. The glass supplier has the rights to correct logo and etches it into the glass for an extra fee; I even sent a photo to get an exact match...Don
