This one is sort of strange to me. First this is my 1971 LT-1, almost done with a body off restoration. I have been having issues with trying to get the wiper, and wiper door working and am not doing very well. I tested all of the components and found the wiper door relay on the right inner fender was bad, so I replaced that and then today wanted to do some more tests to see what was working, I removed the wiper linkage and turned on the wipers, low, then high both worked fine, but then I see smoke from the wiper motor and it stops working. I then want to do some voltage tests there is no power to the wiper, and no power to anything, the car is like the battery is disconnected, so I disconnect the battery and will look at it later, 3 hours later I reconnect the battery the car now has power, this is real strange, all the fuses look good, I have the wiper motor unplugged and next plan I making sure the motor ground is good, then power it up with my power prob tester and see what happens, I am sort of out of my comfort zone here any ideas how to deal with this?, thanks Ron

Re: wiper motor smokes
Ron,
Your wiper motor has a thermal relay that was overheated. If you are lucky the wiper motor will be OK when you try again. If you are not so lucky you will have to get the wiper motor serviced. I would recommend using Steve Hackel at Restoration Service 1 708 687-4183. Most all the wiper motors end up in his shop anyway.

Re: wiper motor smokes
Thanks for the reply, this motor was overhauled 2 years ago, I just reconnected it and it does still work, I have contacted the overhauler he said he will take care of me, I want to do a little more checking to make sure it isn't the car rather than the wiper motor, the harness is all new and correct, I will test a few more things and see, I know the ground is fine, I am going to test the yellow for power, and I know the red/white has power, green and blue have to be OK because I get both speeds, this one is strange- Top
