How do i compress my leaf spring?

    Guys,

got the trailing arms installed. Now I need to connect my leaf springs but of course they're like a foot away from where it needs to be. My frame is on a rotisserie so I can just jack the spring against the car's weight. Before I get close I'm lifting the whole rotisserie. Any suggestions? I was thinking about rapping the spring with a ratchet tie down and compressing it that way but wanted to check to see if anyone has any better ideas. Thanks.

        Mike,

I placed a 2 x 8 board (with shims to make it flat) across the frame (side to side) with an old rug underneath the boards to protect the frame. Then positioned a small hydraulic floor jack so the lifting pad was positioned above the leaf spring end. I used a plastic covered wire I picked up at the hardware store (along with hardware to make the loop secure) and a piece of old garden hose over the wire which I looped over the end of the leaf spring. Then attached to jack lifting pad and just jacked it up until I got it into position to attach the bolt. then reversed to do the other side. Be sure to not tighten the mounting bolts to the diff until you get the body back on and the spring is compressed otherwise you risk stripping the threads in the diff housing.

                  Hi John M.,
I'll bite on the last picture in your article …and the quiz question. I assume this is for extra credit?!
The curve on the end of the second longest leaf appears to be upside down.
                  But how can that be??????
                  Regards,
                  Alan

That's right Alan and the spring has the GM marker on the edge of one leaf.
                    How? I dunno...
