In the past corrections/clarifications have waited for the next edition of the manuals. There is a place on this board for corrections/clarifications to the TIM&JGs, but it is largely unknown and unused. Posting corrections/clarifications there would IMO be useless as we would continually have to direct the unknowing and helpless to that location.

Well, that's interesting and the kind of empirical information I like. The information I have must be incorrect. Interesting, it also discounts the allegation that California-delivered base engine 1971's had AIR. At least, it discounts it for THM-equipped base engine cars. Does anyone out there have a 1971 with "CJL" or "CGT" coded engine?
      Joe,
Don't know if this helps at all but I was a line mechanic in CA at a Chevy dealer in 1971. I saw a mixture of flat top piston cars without all the smog and dished piston cars with all the smog. The first 1971 car I opened up that had dished pistons shocked me and I called the service manager over to take a look. I told him that the factory put a truck engine in the car because truck engines had the lower compression dished pistons. He laughed and told me to get used to it, things are changing.

For the 1971 model year, the across-the-board reduction in compression ratios was mostly accomplished by an increase in combustion chamber size. For 1972 and beyond dished pistons started appearing for many applications.

Given that it's a nominal change that shouldn't affect the page layout (though Gary would confirm) it might be possible to change it for the next printing rather than wait for the next edition. A table, though, would require a lot more of a change than a wording clarification and would likely have to wait.
