I've read posts which discuss the upper and lower shock washer on 63/64 as 5544049 replaced by GM # 25628204 and my 64 AIM shows the same for the sway bar (8 peices I think). But I've seen a 4941130 advertized for the sway bar. It looks the same but possibly thicker, not sure. A forum search does not identify this part. Can you tell me what it is?

GM #4941130 was a SERVICE retainer that was one of the ones available between the 5544049 and the 25628204. The difference between all of these retainers is so subtle it's pretty much impossible to describe. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Shock Washer, Sway Bar Washer (Joe Lucia)
This is great. I just bought a pack of 25 of repro 5544049 from AMK products for about $15. A pack of 8 of the 4941130 came up on ebay this morning and has already gone to $70.69 in bidding.....and a ten pack of the rubber bushings is at $70.69 also. Thanks Joe, I'll just install my repros.- Top

Anyone that pays that kind of money (and, likely, more by the time the auction ends) for the retainers and bushings is NUTS. With respect to the bushings, the current GM replacement is GM #6270752. These are configured slightly different from the originals but once they are installed no one in the world could tell the difference. By the way, if the bushings you are referring to are GM #6260418, those bushings were never originally used on any 1953-72 Corvette. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Shock Washer, Sway Bar Washer (Joe Lucia)
There are two variations of the washers. Besides the ones that are original for 63-64 there is one that is a tad oversize. I forget if the larger one has the square in the center or not.
Meanwhile I have my share of them NOS. Not rusty and beat up like Joe Ray's. hahahaha.- Top

Re: Shock Washer, Sway Bar Washer (Joe Lucia)
All-------
By the way, a few other important things to remember here:
The ONLY place that these retainers are used on any 1965-82 Corvette is the front stabilizer links. They are not used for any original shock installation, front or rear, for ANY 1965-82 Corvette.
Why all the different part numbers for what appear to be the same retainers over the years? Well, looking at the part numbers I think they might just be different GM divisional part numbers for the same part. These things were widely used in GM.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

If you are referring to the 1965-82 front shock upper retainer, GM #3790342, it's completely different than the retainers pictured here. It's 1.9" OD, much thicker, and has no hex recess in the center.
I believe there's also a version of the retainer shown in the photos here which is the same size, thickness, and general configuration but without the hex recess. However, I don't think this version was ever used for any application on a 1963+ Corvette, if it was ever used on any Corvette. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Shock Washer, Sway Bar Washer (Joe Lucia)
Attached is a pic from the AMK web for what I bought. In the right view it looks like there are notches in the radius but they are not there. The left view is what I see up close and they look like the GM parts, certainly good enough for my car. To answer John's question, If a set of 12 decent parts (enough for the entire car) had been available on ebay I'd have gone $30 if I believed they were original parts. Recently I looked on the GMPartwGiant online. They originally took an order for about 50 cents but came back saying the parts had to come from an obsolete surplus supplier at about $4.50 each so I cancelled.Attached Files- Top
