    '72 Ignition shielding

I Recently acquired what I think is an original upper shield for my '72. The finish is not what I expected. My repro is very shiny, perhaps too shiny. The one I received is intact, has the plastic rivets and plastic protector in place. My concern is the finish. The one I received, in great shape, has an almost satin finish to it. My question is this: How do you tell the difference between an original and a repro shield? Thanks!!

You have just described the major difference between reproduction shielding and original shielding.

The original flash chrome on valve covers is crummy too.

Thanks for the replies. I took pics of the side by side and thought I'd share. I was aware that the flash chrome wasn't supposed to be as nice as a quality chrome job but this shield just seems a bit more dull than I expected. Enjoy!!

          Tom,

The original one you show is, I would say, far more dull than I usually see. I have several used examples, and none look like this. Have I seen them? Yes. Do I buy them if they look like this? No.

          I hope that helps.
