Would anyone happen to know the correct part number for this small block 327 kit. I've punched in a few part numbers but nothing comes up. Thank you in advance . Jeff.

GM #3931600. This was the last available gasket kit from GM but it's long-since discontinued. This kit, at least at the time of its original release, likely contained the same components used in PRODUCTION.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1968 L79 Intake Gasket kit
Jeff------
GM #6258833 is a gasket set used for many 1973+ small blocks. The side gaskets should work for a 1968 small block. However, one of the side gaskets has a restrictor plate for the exhaust cross-over. This should be removed. Also, I'm not sure that the externally visible configuration of the side gaskets is the same as the original 68 gaskets but it does have the camel hump on one side.
The rubber end gaskets in the 6258833 will not work for the 1968 327. Original pre-1969 small blocks used a "side-tab" locating feature. 1969+ small blocks, including those SERVICED by the 6258833 gasket set, used a "post" type locating feature.
The GM #6258833 was replaced by GM #356801 and, later, GM #10174956 both of which are now discontinued, too.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Joe, in the judging manual it doesn't mention the GM tabs. Any knowledge of why it wouldn't ? Wonder of 68 builds ?68 L79 Convertible: Triple Black: Work In Progress, Body off. Now on!

I don't know why it's not mentioned in the JG. GM gasket sets usually had the GM logo on the end seals. I have seen what I regard as some "mistakes" which didn't have them (i.e. the gasket manufacturer, which was never GM, included end seals destined for their aftermarket product line in the GM kits). In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

That GM tab was used as a warranty indicator was my understanding for the service department. The tab changed over the years earlier gaskets the tab was more square later it became the half circle. That will be an update in the next revision the new 70-72 manual talks about those tabs. I think you could use the later replacement gasket set but you would have to trim of the posts that were used for alignment that were not in earlier block castings.- Top

In addition to the posts, the 69+ gasket end seals don't have the locating tabs that fit over the sides of the lifter valley end rails. So, if one were to trim the posts off a 1969+ end seal, it would not mimic the earlier configuration (although it would be installable using gasket cement). In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Yes, that's just as it should be. The 3931600 is a 1968 and earlier gasket set. All 1968 and earlier gasket sets have the locating tab configuration. .In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
