    1994 LT1 Fuel Gauge

Last Fall when I put my 1994 LT1 in storage (not at home) for the Winter season there was little gas left in the tank. Due to circumstances this car hasn’t had any road use this year, but when I fired it up a couple weeks ago it started strong with the 2nd turn of the key. I noticed then that the fuel gauge read “Reserve” so I went out and brought back four gallons of gas to put in the tank. I didn’t want to move the car out of storage not knowing what was left in “Reserve”. Adding four gallons of gas to the tank should have put the fuel level above the “Reserve” level, but it didn’t move the fuel level bar a bit. Pushing the Fuel Reset has no effecton the gauge level. There is no information in the Owner’s Manual, other than to push the Fuel Reset after refueling. The Service Manual has even less information. Seems that I remember in the past not always pushing the “Fuel Reset” after a fill yet the gauge fuel level and other related info would always reflect the fill.

My question is this: What am I doing wrong? Does the tank need a full fill of gas for the “Fuel Reset” to reset the fuel level?

Any help will be appreciated. Joe Lucia are you out there?

With my 94 LT-1 the reserve light comes on with about 2-3 gallons of gas in the tank. But doesn't the fuel reset button reset the instant MPG in the dash display?

John my 1996 LT4 gas gauge was not reading right once, I just knew how much fuel my 96 usually used and did not do anything about it. It started working correctly after awhile. It was working the last time I drove it. Have not driven it in some time now. Will check it out when it is on the road again.

I think if you drive it for awhile the gauge will come back to reading correctly.

Joe, you hit the nail right on the head! Gauge is working correctly again. Must be one of those computer delay things that require multiple ignition starts & stops and/or a few road miles added to the odometer.

Thought I'd post so others experiencing this same problem, past, present or future might benefit from your advice on this subject.

I had a similar problem with my 1994 and my 2002. Gauge would go to zero. Using Techron fuel additive in each fill up helped along with using only Chevron with Techron.

In my opinion, Chevron with Techron is the best fuel out there----it's at the top of "Top Tier". It's the only fuel I've ever used in my 1992.

My 1996 is still working. Drove it two days last week 20 miles, not enough to move it from full.
