Good catch Joe, I didn't notice that this was a later sheet mould compound epoxy panel rather than the original type polyester resin panel. That should make a big difference in its price. I hope you are right about Corvette Image glass fixing their problems. The experts I know had such bad experiences in the past that they were not inclined to try the more recent products.

      Re: Split window hood surround

When I painted my 63 coupe I had to replace the front end, (no choice) and I remember purchasing a black GM surround at Carlisle. It is a nice piece, I paid something like 175 for the surround tied it to the roof and home I went, wished I bought a dozen. I used original 63 inner fenders and at the time everything EXCEPT the louvered front fenders was still available from GM, the side fenders came from Ecklers and were hand laid. I never had any problems but if the car ever gets painted again I would like to find some nice original or NOS lower fenders.

Does anyone know when these 1963 lower front fenders were discontinued. I have seen pictures of the press that was used to manufacture the press molded fiberglass panels and IMO you would have to go a long way to find this quality. Add to this the rumor that the resin causes problems after paint and it's certainly something to think hard about. For the $$ you would think this reproduction fiberglass would be top notch.

Tim--- I understand the GM black polyester surround you got for $175 now goes for about $4000 if you are lucky enough to find one. This is not because people have lots of good choices of trouble free aftermarket glass. The GM SMC pieces are the second best choice of people whose work I admire.

I'm surprised a black 63 surround would go for that since they would take a judging hit if I read the JG right. The CI and Shimmersheim surrounds are in the $1,300 range from what I'm seeing online. Original '63 hoods and other pieces are unobtanium....
I've lucked out and picked up a nice panels.. The hood will need minor glass work on the rear tips. No bigee.

Some dumb azz dragged along the ground at some point..
