    Brake pedal push rod location

There are two holes in the brake pedal shaft for locating the master cylinder rod. My 66 had added-on 67 style power brakes when I got it and the rod was located in the bottom hole.

As part of my restoration, I have returned the car to manual brakes. I believe the rod goes in one hole for manual and the other hole for power brakes, but I don't know for sure which is which!

The attached picture shows as removed, i.e. in the bottom hole, and I pointed out the upper hole with a red arrow.

I have looked in the TIM&JG, the AIM and the Service Manual and can find which goes where.

Looking for which hole to install the rod for manual brakes? Also, where is this called out in any of the documentation?

    Thanks,
    Don

Use the top hole as shown in the photo of my pedal assembly. I looked in the AIM and only 1 hole is shown for both manual and power brakes. The actual pedal assy has 2 holes.... have no idea why....

      Don,

I agree with Stephen, but turned right side up it would be considered the lower hole. The booster changes the angle of the master cylinder so the lower hole lines straighter.

No. Installed in the car use the upper hole. The photo has the assy upside down. The AIM makes no mention of an alternate hole for power brakes. I guess that was possibly an "understanding" on the assy line.

Standard brakes and power brakes require a different pedal ratio. If you don't change it when you add power brakes, you'll bounce your face off the windshield every time you apply the brakes.

Thanks all. I'll use the upper hole.

Can't see in the photos, but if the change by the prior owner to PB included removing the upper arm shaft coil spring and plastic sleeve(not used for PB), I think it needs to go back on for the manual brake changeover. I think this applies to 1966 as well as 1967.

I have a photo somewhere on Photobucket but I can't find it. On the road so I can't access my home files.

                Stephen,

The 1963 AIM section J-50 sheet #3 has a note to use the lower hole for the power brake booster clevis.

No note in the 67 AIM on any brake pages....... evidently eliminated.
There is the addition of a "striker" bolt and nut in 67 power brakes on the J50-A3 page. Don't know what that is....

Thanks Rich. I discovered the missing spring and bushing when I was restoring the pedal assembly. Replaced both

                        Stephen,

The striker bolt and flag goes in the top bolt and it's there to contact the brake light switch on power brake cars.
