    Re: Cooling Issues Solved 327/350

As promised, here are some Photos of my Fan Clutch that I am currently using.

I reads U.S.A. on it, I bought it a few years ago at a local auto parts store.

I would appreciate any comments or feedback.

    Thanks

Okay,,,,, haven't posted photos for a very long time and don't know where the WarpPortal Launcher pic came from.

I used Tinypics to down load my photos and followed the following instructions -

      1. Have your picture on your computer.
      2. Go to http://tinypic.com/
      3. Click the "Browse" button to find your picture.
      4. Click "Open"
      5. Click "Upload Image"
      6. For the NCRS board, go to "Link" and copy everything in that box.It should start "http://"
      7. Paste it in the box next to "Optional Image URL that is below theMessage box.

Followed the instructions, downloaded the photos that I wanted to use off my computer, but obviously didn't work.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

I see the picture ok. Looks like the one I had before I got the new one. I'm still not positive the old one was bad, but the K&B works better.

Well, at least it's a thermal type clutch. I was concerned that it might be a non-thermal type which is a type I NEVER recommend.

It looks like it's a Delco/Four Seasons/Hayden aftermarket clutch. I believe these are all manufactured by Standard Motor Products and sold under multiple brands. This is probably a decent clutch. But, it may be worn out. Aftermarket parts are often not designed for the kind of life that OEM parts are designed for. Aftermarket parts are, essentially, designed to get a car to the end of its life which is mostly "used up" by the time the aftermarket part goes on. Of course, on an "immortal" old Corvette that might well be not long enough.

              Thanks Joe, much appreciated

next step is to order a new fan clutch from K and B and then order a top shroud seal from Long Island or the Doc.

hopefully this will be the end of spending more time watching and worrying about the Temp. gauge Rising and more time just enjoying driving the car.

The easy way to post photos:

                  - Click on "Post New Thread" or "Reply" to begin a post.

                  - Click on the "Insert Image" icon located in the tool bar along the top of the text box you're typing in. As you float the cursor above the proper icon, "Insert Image" will appear.

                  - Follow the directions to upload a photo. I almost always upload "From Computer".

Generic replacement fan clutches are usually setup for emission controlled engines with 195F thermostats, so they don't tighten until radiator exit air temperature is 15-20 degrees higher than one setup of a non-emission controlled engine with a 180 stat, so the engine may go well above 180 in stop and go traffic.

Some can be adjusted to tighten at a lower temperature. See the attached article.

                        Thanks Mark,

The bike is a little 1977 Honda XL 125 I restored a number of years ago for my Son.

now it's just garage art, as the boy has out grown it.

your suggestion for posting photos worked great!!

Duke, I had read that article and wound the front spring an extra half turn, still no difference.

thank you for the suggestion and info.

My favorite fan clutch, as I've mentioned many times before, is the GM #88961768, aka ACDelco 15-4950. Unfortunately, it cannot be used with your existing fan blade assembly and requires one of the 1971+ Corvette fan blade assemblies. In my opinion, this is the best and highest performance fan clutch ever installed on a Corvette. Its configuration is totally unlike any clutch ever used prior to 1972 but this thing provides GREAT idle and low speed cooling and I mean GREAT!
