Corvette Brothers: OK, I'm on the hunt for my next hard to find part; specifically, a jack and jack handle for a 1966 Corvette. I saw 3 on EBay for $700. Wow! I still have 2 boys to send to College so that ain't gonna work. Any guidance from the NCRS Brain Trust would be greatly appreciated. Thanks fellows. Best, Ned

Re: 1966 Holy Grail Sought - Jack and Handle
Ned, This years Corvettes at Carlisle would have been a good place to look sometimes there are some deals to ne had. Other wise its Ebay- not to may bargains there. The other choice is buy a reproduction, Long Island Corvette sells them, I brought one for my 63. during judging there was no deduct, so they must be very close in construction. I think that 66 jacks may have a date though, You could try and do your own date stamp, but would need to find the correct size stamp font. Repro jacks and factory jack were really not safe to use.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

1966 jack is an undated type 3. There were several available at Carlisle last week. A really nice one will cost more than a nice repro. I wouldn't actually use an original or repro jack to actually lift a car though. Too flimsy.Region VII Director (serving members in Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas).

Ed and Tony:
Thanks guys. I think that I'll go the Long Island Corvette route (running out of time to get ready). As always, much obliged. BTW, please forgive all the dumb questions; I do try to keep them to a minimum. I can't say enough about the NCRS fellowship. Great group of folks that are willing to share time and expertise. Best, Ned- Top

Re: 1966 Holy Grail Sought - Jack and Handle
Edmund, I agree with Edward.
I can attest to the fact that they aren't that good. I'm not sure if mine is original or a repro, but when me and my 66 arrived in Carlisle on Thursday, my brakes were in desperate need of bleeding. I thought the jack would work as well as the one in my Toyota but the long screw that does the lifting had it's threads ground by the nut it pulls. Best to put the Vette jack on the shelf in the garage and get something else for the road trips.- Top

Re: 1966 Holy Grail Sought - Jack and Handle
I found an excellent original correct '66 jack with handle on Corvette Forum Classifieds for $450. Not cheap, but not $800 either. With patience--and, importantly, stalking the parts section frequently--they are available 👍.- Top

How many points would you lose with the somewhat larger C3 jack from the 70's that would be way cheaper also be safer to use if you really needed a jack?- Top

Brothers: If anyone has an extra jack with handle that they want to sell reasonably, please drop me a line. Many thanks. edmund.w.chapman@mwcc-usa.com. By the way, I heard that the Corvair used an identical jack. True or false?- Top

Tony------
I think original Corvette jacks are quite safe to use. However, what they're safe to use for is changing a tire and definitely not something involving getting under the car. They were never designed for the latter purpose. The 1969+ jacks are sturdier and more stable but the earlier ones are OK for changing a tire.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

RH Inc. also made Corvair jacks.
