Re: 3970010, casting # Typical?
I don't really understand your question? Was there supposed to be a photo?
Based on my research there were 3 different casting numbers used on 1969 models. As a rule the Corvette and Z28 blocks were cast in Flint.
3932386 (early)
3956618
3970010 (late)

William------
It's certainly not typical. However, I highly doubt it's anything but authentic. Nobody is now or ever was "casting up" bogus reproductions of this block. I'd say this is just a foundry anomaly, probably unique to the pattern number used to make the sand mold for this block.
I have heard of block casting numbers and dates being "modified" by the use of carefully applied epoxy. Usually, this is "covered up" by the engine paint. In your case, however, the block surface appears bare and it does not, at all, appear like an "epoxy job" to me.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Thank you, I believe it to be an original block, but was confused by the misalignment of the numbers, especially the "1" upside down?- Top
