It's located on the top of the driver side frame rail approximately at the mid point of the door opening. Unfortunately, it's extremely hard to see with the body on the frame.

My 1957 had the vin stamped on two locations, where Joe said and going to the rear near the the other stamping was the same stamping.
my vin number ended in 3745 and early May car.

The most important factor is how bad the rust is on the top rails. I have been able see it on my 59 and many others with the body on, using a mirror placed under the floor with double-sided tape. Too much scaly rust, no. If the floor to frame is tight there, you can use some wedges to push up on the floor to give more space for viewing. I often use various sized 3/8" drive deep sockets and push in and roll them into the vin area.
