Do you have an "early" 1965? If so, you might want to refer to the link below.

The "early" 1965 Chevrolet 283/327 models were issued an embossed dipstick, GM # 3860099, which was 1/4" wide but was replaced with a narrower stamped dipstick, GM # 3876786 (Jan. 7, 1965 as per the assembly manual and August 1965 as per Chevrolet Parts History for over the counter parts).

The "A" dimension (20 1/8" vs. 20 5/32") is almost the same as the 65-67 Corvette dipstick, GM # 3862730.

Perhaps you should verify what oil pan is on the motor.
