Re: 63 mufflers part #
In production the plant received the rear exhaust pipe/muffler as a welded together assembly, and the part number is in the AIM. But this was never offered as a service part. The service mufflers were designed to clamp onto the rear pipe section. AFAIK the internal design was the same as OE, but the inlet nipples were expanded to fit over the rear pipe section and secured with a clamp.
This continued in subsequent years for the base exhaust system. The "off-road" system service parts, which consisted of an assembly of rear exhaust pipe section and muffler welded together were the same part number as used in production, but they won't fit on early '63s with the deep wells under the seat because they don't have the "kickout" to clear the wells.
I believe the off-road system will fit late '63s with the shallow seat wells, but you would have to replace the front section also because the male-female center joint orientation was reversed for '64-up.

Re: 63 mufflers part #
If your looking for N11 for your 63 with a great sound try Gardner.. http://www.gardnerexhaust.com/ They are great people to work with.
You will need to install the system then weld the mufflers on. I was concerned about this at first but soon realized it made for a better fit and alignment.

Joe------
As Duke mentioned, the original PRODUCTION muffler/pipe assemblies were never available in SERVICE for standard exhaust systems. The SERVICE mufflers included a forward extension that was designed to mate with a shortened, original pipe. However, there were 2 different size exhausts used for 1963----2" and 2-1/2". SERVICE mufflers for both are shown below:
GM #3846531-----LH, 2"
GM #3846532-----RH, 2"
GM #3843385-----LH-2-1/2"
GM #3843386-----RH-2-1/2"
By the way, the above are all long-since GM-discontinued, highly sought after, and usually sell for a king's ransom when they are found. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Bob------
Yes, that's right. However, these parts were all discontinued in 1965 and replaced at that time by the part numbers I provided which were the last available SERVICE mufflers. I don't know of any visual difference between the 3830625/6 and the 3846531/2. The 3843385/6 manufactured after 1967 had dual hanger brackets for both C2 and early C3 while those produced earlier had only the C2 brackets. I don't know of any physical difference between the earlier 3843385/6 and the 3830629/30.
The chances of finding NOS 3830625/6 or 3830629/30 for sale are about as close to zero as one could get (curiously, I have an NOS set of the 3830625/6 [not for sale]).In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
