Iconic Route 66 diner destroyed by wildfire

I really hate to see this happen, always was THE place to stop on the way to LA in my Corvette:

When I lived in Apple Valley and worked in San Bernardino in the 1980s, the Summit Inn was the place to call to see if chains were required to get down the Cajon Pass in the winter. I called the California Highway Patrol one time to ask and they gave me the Summit Inn phone number and said they knew more than the CHPs regarding chains on the pass in the winter. They had the best apple pie in that place! Sad to see it burned.
