    C2 Hardtop Restoration

I'm sure some of you have tried this yourself. After years of letting my hardtop sit in the basement I'm finally putting it back together. Most if not all the rubber is larger than the original rubber. The inner header rubber has the plastic inserts that attach the rubber to the hardtop. The plastic inserts are way to big to install into the original holes.

Question is, to you who have restored your hardtops which supplier has the closest to original rubber with the correct size plastic inserts.

Harry do you have the original plastic inserts from the old weatherstripping? I may have some convertible top plastic inserts if there the same, Just how many are there?

Ed, sorry, none of the old pins left. I found an NOS strip and it was installed in 2 minutes. This new rubber just will not go in.

I'll post some pictures later on during the restoration.

Harry, when I did my resto I used Corvette rubber for everything and had no problems, But not for a hardtop car.

            Harry,

Gonna agree with Ed as I have always used Corvette Rubber with little or no problems.

Harry, I have a couple of GM 3846179 in the original package if you need one.

Harry, I used CRC header w/strip on a '67 several years ago and it fit perfectly.

              These holes, right?

The only problem I had was the ends were marked wrong, LH/RH.

In fact you helped me then when you sent me the Dow Smith AIM pages.

Well it's all done. I ended up using an NOS rear lower bow and an NOS front header. The repro rubber was just to thick to use and cut.

One of my longer projects as I started collecting and polishing stainless in 2000.

Looks great and I love the look of a hardtop on a convertible.
