1957 vin tag attachment screws

Greetings:

I have been working on my 57 for over 15 years and it is getting closer. I need to put the VIN TAG back on and need to know what screws are used. It is my understanding that they are round head phillips but what size? #8?? etc

Need to make this happen as I will need to have the car verified by the DMV (north carolina)

Have you checked the Bolt & Screw Chart in the back of in the 5th & 6th Editions of the 1956-7 TIJM ? Lots of good bolt & screw information in that section.

The Serial Number Plate screw per the AIM Section B Sheet 4.00 is part # 273445, which is a #8 Pan Head Phillips screw .375 inches long.

When you take the car for verification, be sure and take a copy of the A.I.M. sheet that shows the VIN plate being attached with screws and a copy of the sheet in Noland's book that shows it; some state DMV's don't have that kind of information, and they can get really ugly when they see VIN plates attached with screws.
