I was wondering what the effect might be if I added Vintage Air to 72 coupe, base automatic with 92k miles. The car has its orginal drive components engine (less alternator and water pump) , trains, rear end. It's been repainted in the orginal color Ontario Orange, black seats and carpet replaced. No hit body, 3rd owner with all repair records from day one. Frame is good, orginal glass with some rust by the vin plate. Do you think Vintage air would reduce the resale of the value down the road s few years?

Re: Vintage Air For 1972
Richard,
The effect would be cooler temperature inside the car but another story for the engine temperature. Plan on new radiator and a higher amp alternator. Value is the amount agreed upon by seller and buyer.- Top

Re: Vintage Air For 1972
I'm thinking about putting it in my '72 Convertible. There's an outfit called Classic Auto Air...two locations..Tampa, FL and Coppell TX...they will sell you the kit or will even install the unit. probably about a $2,500 deal. If you look at the pictures on line...it looks like factory. As far as future value is concerned...that's something everyone has to decide for themselves. In my case, I do have a great original car...but, it's still a low optioned C3 which let's face it...it's never going to be the top of the "Hit Parade," so does that really matter. I say if you want it...get it.- Top

Re: Vintage Air For 1972
I've dealt with Classic Auto Air out of Tampa on my first generation Mustang A/C - great folks.
I struggled with the A/C question on my split window and chose to install it and it made enjoyment of the car much greater; it was pretty much a disaster for judging though. Tough call, but I drive my cars and they don't just sit in the garage being admired...- Top

Re: Vintage Air For 1972
I understand the logic of installing aftermarket AC in C1 and C2 drivers where factory AC was either not available or rare.
But there's a lot of C3s with AC already installed by the factory, especially base engine cars like yours. So unless there's an emotional attachment, why not acquire a car factory equipped the way you want? It's certainly easier and probably more economical.Mark Edmondson

Re: Vintage Air For 1972
Richard:
If NCRS/Bloomington judging is in your plans for the car, then I would NOT install the Vintage air. But if your plan is to drive the car and have fun with it, then I would encourage you to install the AC and be happy.
Effect on resale value is mixed: it would probably be a dollar hit on value if sold to an NCRS guy who was looking for an original car for judging, but would likely be a dollar bonus for most others. It is a decision that only you can make.
FWIW.
