    1978 Squeaky Wheel

I have been experiencing a rotational squeak from the rear passenger side wheel. Doesnt start squeaking right away but after a few minutes driving. It stops when I apply slight brake pressure. I have had rotors and pads replaced. I checked half shafts and sprayed lubricant on u joints but still I there.

I vote rear wheel spindle bearings. Don't just any one to do them properly.
    It's a good life!

Yeah that sounds like a good possibility. Hoping not but going to havr to check that out. Not getting worse and wheel feels rock solid when I jacked it up.

I had a spring break on the E-Brake shoes that caused a grinding noise.

Ol thanks. We readjusted that after replacing rotors and pads they looked alright. Appreciate the reply.

There are several possibilities. However, I keyed in on one of the things you mentioned in your post, that being the fact that you had the rotors replaced. This can cause problems for 1965-82 Corvettes. You need to check the rotors on the car for excessive runout. This OFTEN occurs when rotors are replaced on a 1965-82 Corvette. The total indicated runout should not exceed 0.002" and even less is better. If there is excessive runout, several things subsequently occur. One of these things is "in-and-out" movement of the brake pads. This causes the ends of the pads to rub against the calipers and create a rotational squeaking noise.

The other problem created, which is far more serious, is the "air pumping" phenomenon in which the "in-and-out" movement of the pistons causes air to be drawn into the brake system, resulting in a "soft" brake pedal. In any event, you need to dial-indicate your rear rotors pronto.

Of course, other things can cause the squeak. Chief among them are rear wheel bearings and half-shaft u-joints. If either of these are long-serving on your car, then they are highly suspect.

Thanks Joe for the input. Im going to have to look at the rotor issue with run out.
